OmiseGo is a decentralized exchange, mobile payments rail, digital wallet, and liquidity provider built on the Ethereum network. Its features will include (1) merchant services, enabling merchants to accept consumer payments in fiat and cryptocurrencies, (2) banking services to the "unbanked" and “underbanked” (e.g. microlending and account services), and (3) traditional financial services, like payments, remittances, payroll deposits, and market making. The OmiseGO network will use a Proof of Stake consensus mechanism to validate interchain transactions, which provides low transaction fees. All clearing and settlement occurs on-chain and all transaction validators are bonded. OmiseGo’s technological infrastructure relies on the recently unveiled PLASMA project, a collaboration between Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s founder, and Joseph Poon, from the Lightning Network. PLASMA attempts to parallelize the computation of on-chain smart contracts using an architecture similar to that of sharding. Both Buterin and Poon are heavily involved with the project, as well as many other industry leaders.
